Add whoisbrowsing to Ghost
Updated
TL;DR
To see live visitors on a Ghost site, paste one script tag into Settings, Advanced, Code injection, in the Site footer box. It applies to every page, with no theme editing.
Using an AI coding agent? Give it this prompt:
Add whoisbrowsing (live visitor view) to this project. Follow https://whoisbrowsing.com/SKILL.md exactly.
Your snippet
<script src="https://live.whoisbrowsing.com/s.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID" defer></script>
Steps
- Open Ghost Admin, then Settings, then Advanced, then Code injection.
- Paste the snippet into the Site footer box.
- Save.
Ghost's help puts code injection under Settings, Advanced, Code Injection, with a Site Header box (output inside <head>) and a Site Footer box (placed before the closing </body> tag), and you can also inject code per post from the editor (Ghost help). That page does not mention a plan requirement, so check your plan if you use Ghost(Pro). Self-hosted Ghost has the feature built in.
Header or footer
| Box | Use for whoisbrowsing |
|---|---|
| Site footer | Yes, recommended |
| Site header | Works too, keep defer |
| Per-post injection | Only if you want one post |
Code injection depends on your theme: Ghost's docs say the {{ghost_foot}} helper, placed just before </body> in default.hbs, outputs anything added in Code Injection (Ghost docs). If a custom theme leaves it out, the tag will not appear.
Content-Security-Policy note
If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy header, allow the script and its live connection: script-src https://live.whoisbrowsing.com and connect-src wss://live.whoisbrowsing.com. Most Ghost sites send no such header, so you can usually skip this.
Verify
- In whoisbrowsing, click Watch for your site.
- Open your site in a Chrome Incognito or Safari private window. Your own normal browser is never counted, so a private window is how you test.
- You should see yourself as a coloured cursor on your real page, and one line for you in the side panel.
Each website is separate: www. and the bare domain count as the same website, but localhost and production never mix. If you see nothing, check that the site ID matches the one shown for this site.
If you see nothing on Ghost
- Did you save? Code injection applies after you click Save.
- Is the tag in the page source? Open a post in a private window, view the source and search for
live.whoisbrowsing.com. If it is missing, check that your theme prints{{ghost_foot}}. - Is it one post only? Per-post injection runs on that post alone; use the site-wide box for every page.
Let your AI agent do it
Add whoisbrowsing (live visitor view) to this project. Follow https://whoisbrowsing.com/SKILL.md exactly.
This prompt works when your Ghost theme lives in a project an agent can edit. For the Code Injection box, which you fill in Ghost Admin, paste the tag yourself; an agent can still create the site for you and hand you the tag. See install with an AI agent.
